While not exactly a game, Aleph One is a free and open source continuation of the engine behind Bungie's 1995 fps Marathon 2: Durandal (aka the main inspiration behind the aesthetic of this website) and features native support for the entirety of Bungie's Marathon Trilogy (each game is avaiable for download individually on the site) as well as numerous third party scenarios. The Marathon Trilogy itself is just absolutely incredible, of course it includes the frantic run and gun gameplay associated with shooters of the 90s, but unlike its contemporaries, the Marathon games all put a lot more emphasis on atmosphere and story, creating one of the most intruiging and well written science fiction stories I have ever come across. UESCTerm 802.11 (remote override) 7777 08.25.2337 OpenRA Platform: Windows, Mac OS, Linux, FreeBSD Genre: RTS Another open source project, OpenRA aims to be a modernization of classic rts games from the now defunct Westwood Studios, combining that 90s rts charm with modern features and balance changes. Currently Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, and Dune 2000 are all fully playable and very polished. OpenRA is truly the best way to play any of these 3 games to the point where I can't go back to the originals. With tons of community support, mods, and even a modernized Tiberian Sun coming soon, OpenRA is THE best way to experience the glory days of Westwood and Command & Conquer. UESCTerm 802.11 (remote override) 7777 08.25.2337 Renegade X Platform: Windows Genre: FPS/TPS Renegade X is a fan made remake of Westwood Studio's 2003 fps Command & Conquer: Renegade, a criminally underrated shooter with some rts elements. This remake sports fancy new visuals courtesy of Unreal Engine and surprisingly enough, official blessings from EA, meaning it's in no danger of being shut down. The game is an awesome mix of large scale infantry, vehicle, and air combat, and the upcoming standalone Renegade X: Firestorm aims to expand all of that plus bring more rts elements like base building all with a nice new Tiberian Sun inspired coat of paint.
